The Last Ship
To promote Sting's New Broadway musical, The Last Ship, New York agency SpotCo contacted us to create a 15s animation. The brief was left wide open for story ideas and visual approach. So there wasn't an initial script or story direction akin to writing for a music video pitch. The main objective was to tell a visual and beautiful story that is emotionally tethered to the narrative from the musical.
After reading the playscript, we developed a story about a father and son relationship spanning multiple generations. Without spoiling the musical for you, we took key characters from the story and infused their motivations into our 30s version. The distinct red ship is the visual thread connecting each scene and linking back to the brand's logo mark.
