Run the River enhances Murray-Darlings Basin Authority's (DBA) educational products for school aged children, delivering outcomes from the Australian science curriculum in an interactive, engaging and enjoyable way.
Released publicly for “World Water Day”, by SA Senator Simon Birmingham at The National Science and Technology Centre (Questacon), 'Run the River' is an educational resource management game targeted at a primary school students. The game is based on the hydrological cycle and aims to educate players in the intricacies of balancing the varying needs of water consumers in an environment with limited water resources.
This game is an interesting and interactive way to teach students about some of the challenges involved with managing water in a river system so that water needs of towns, industries and the environment are met.” - SA Senator Simon Birmingham
It very much reflects the challenges we face in managing the Murray-Darling Basin; keeping the river and its ecosystems healthy and managing the Basin's water sustainably so that we can continue to support the industries and communities relying on that water. These are really important lessons for our younger generation to learn. SA Senator Simon Birmingham
